Isle of Man Seasearch

In 2011 the Isle of Man Seasearch divers accounted for just over 5% of the total number of records submitted to Seasearch UK and the MCS data base, this is a fantastic effort by the Manx Seasearch team.

Seasearch also was involved with several students from Bangor University Department of Ocean Sciences over the summer period.  We have been involved in several community talks over the winter months to spread the word, in February there will be another raft of talks to various groups to try and give an insight into diving round our coasts. All our dives are now on an electronic chart and underwater photos have been attached to the sites, this makes a major impact when giving talks to groups.

The programme for 2012 will hopefully include the following:

  • Continuing surveys in Ramsey Bay in conjunction with the Fisheries Directorate and in particular mapping the seagrass beds off Port e Vullen
  • Continuing the surveys around the Calf of Man and Chicken Rock preparing a full report for MWT
  • Survey of seagrass beds around Langness
  • Involvement in the Bioblitz programme with MWT around Niarbyl
  • Survey of Laxey Bay in include scallop spats, ocean quahogs and seagrass beds
  • Horse mussel survey in Ramsey Bay
  • seabed biodiversity Diver Langness Gully
