Isle of Man Beekeepers Federation is committed to encouraging its members and the public at large to learn more about these essential insects. We are not just Keepers of Bees but care deeply about the welfare of Honey Bees and all types of wild bee. Without pollination by all kinds of bees we would be without our wild flowers and many trees, and of course many of our food sources.
Our big project at the moment is to demonstrate that the Island is free from the bee killing pest Varroa so we can get a dispensation from EU to prevent importation of bees from any where else. There are only 5 countries left on earth without Varroa. The fact that a local law prevented importation for the last 30 years has meant that we are in the enviable position of being without this pest....for now.
